What we Treat
Osteopaths and Physiotherapists are capable of treating a multitude of conditions affecting all areas of the body from headaches to pain in the feet. The staff that work at our clinic ensure the assessment and treatment techniques they use are based on the best current evidence available for their use. This evidence based approach combined with many years of experience gives patients the most appropriate care. The clinic has a very healthy relationship with local GP’s and other healthcare professionals in Thornbury and the surrounding area. This facilitates quick and efficient access to investigations, for example x-rays, when indicated.

Legs & Feet
Sciatica & Nerve Pain
The term Sciatica has been used for many years in the medical profession. It is used to describe pain in the leg caused by compression or irritation of a nerve. People may also experience pins and needles or numbness in the leg/foot. Osteopathy and Physiotherapy aim to help reduce the irritation of the nerve using a variety of treatment techniques, exercises and postural advice.
Muscle & Joint Injuries
If a muscle is strained or torn it will often lead to pain and weakness in the muscle. This leads to difficulty when performing activities of daily living and sports. The majority of muscle injuries do not require an operation, but respond well to Physiotherapy and Osteopathic treatment. This can aid recovery of the muscle and ensure the muscles flexibility and strength is regained fully.
Pain from joints can be due to wear and tear of the joints (Athritis), which is common in the hips and knees, or from trauma to a joint, for example a twisting injury to the knee whilst playing rugby. Swelling, stiffness and eventually weakness of the surrounding muscles are very common in joint problems. Both arthritic joints and traumatised joints can be treated successfully with various modalities, including acupuncture, mobilisation techniques and specific flexibility, strengthening and co-ordination exercises.
Sports Injuries
More and more people are participating in both recreational and competitive sporting activities in order to maintain their health and well being. From time to time sportsmen and women develop problems due to either a traumatic injury on the field of play or through repetitive strain whilst performing sport. People do not need to accept pain when participating in sport, as Physiotherapy and Osteopathy can help to identify the underlying causes of pain, including any faulty biomechanics, and deliver effective treatment to help people return to sport quickly and safely without their problem reoccurring.
