What we Treat
Osteopaths and Physiotherapists are capable of treating a multitude of conditions affecting all areas of the body from headaches to pain in the feet. The staff that work at our clinic ensure the assessment and treatment techniques they use are based on the best current evidence available for their use. This evidence based approach combined with many years of experience gives patients the most appropriate care. The clinic has a very healthy relationship with local GP’s and other healthcare professionals in Thornbury and the surrounding area. This facilitates quick and efficient access to investigations, for example x-rays, when indicated.

Head & Neck
Headaches & Migraines
There are many different causes of headache, but a large proportion of them are termed ‘tension-type’ headaches. These are often caused by a combination of tension in the neck muscles, poor postural habits and stiffness in the joints of the neck and spine. Headache sufferers can be assessed by an Osteopath or Physiotherapist in order to determine the cause of the headache. Once the underlying cause of the headaches has been identified, the correct management can be provided to give long-term pain relief.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is almost as common as lower back pain and is something that can often be easily treated. The pain is often a combination of muscle strain and irritation of the neck joints. As well as providing pain relief, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy can help to regain full movement of the neck, educate patients regarding correct postural habits and find ways to help reduce the chance of reoccurrence.
Whiplash Injuries
Whiplash is a term used to describe injuries of the neck usually caused by road traffic accidents. Very rarely will the motorist suffer serious injury as a result of an accident, however, the level of pain following the injury can be high and in some cases the symptoms can persist for months. It has been proven that receiving early advice and treatment following a whiplash-type injury should lead to a speedy recovery. Osteopathy and Physiotherapy aim to ease the pain and disability using gentle techniques of massage and mobilisation, as well as provide a programme of exercises.
Postural Pain
As the number of computer users has risen sharply over the last 15 years, the number of posture related pain sufferers has also risen. The pain caused by poor postural habits can be due to a build up of strain in the muscles, gradual irritation of the joints or aggravation of the nerves. It is not just computer users that suffer postural pain, but anyone that performs an activity in which the posture of the body needs to be correct to prevent a build up of tension and pain. Any area of the body can be affected by poor posture, although the most common areas are the neck and lower back. Physiotherapy and Osteopathy help to alleviate postural pain by re-educating correct posture and addressing any muscle imbalances with stretches and strengthening exercises.
