Our Team
The practice has a wealth of experienced professionals, all of whom are state registered practitioners and have completed post-graduate education to enhance their clinical effectiveness. With both Osteopaths and a Physiotherapist working at the practice, patients are given a choice of professionals to provide their care. For the practitioner it is very helpful to have a mix of professional staff to discuss treatment options for the patient.
Edward J Gilbert - Registered Osteopath (BSc DO)
Edward (aka Ted) Gilbert trained as an osteopath during the mid 1980’s having previously worked for six years as a secondary school Biology teacher.
He established Thornbury Osteopathic Practice in 1990, and, apart from a years osteopathic work in New Zealand has been there ever since! The year ’95-96 working in New Zealand with the well known ergonomist Andrew Wilson (author of numerous osteopathic and ergonomic books) lead to a period of work in the UK at the Occupational Health department at Orange mobile phones treating mainly work-related problems.
Edward continues to maintain interest in work related overuse problems as well as the usual selection of problems seen in most osteopathic clinics, principally neck, back and joint pains. He is also particularly interested in osteopathic treatment of headaches and has recently been doing some part-time tutoring in Osteopathy at Oxford Brookes University.
He continues to play regular tennis, some cricket and is an enthusiastic long distance walker and sings in a Bristol-based choir, recently returning from a successful tour to Barcelona, Spain.
He believes that most people would benefit from osteopathic treatment as we all fight the inexorable effects of time, gravity and wear-and-tear!
Nick Ashton - Chartered Physiotherapist (BSc (Hons) MCSP)
Nicholas graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2000. He has completed extensive post-graduate studies in Manipulative Therapy at Curtin University, Perth, Australia and is also a Member of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine (M.S.O.M.).
Nicholas has a very keen interest in sports and fitness and enjoys running, playing football and snowboarding. He also has a passion for travelling.
His clinical interests include exercise rehabilitation and manual therapy for injuries sustained both in and out of work, including the sports field.
Amelia Davies - Registered Osteopath (BSc (Hons) Ost Med)
Amelia graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004 gaining a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Osteopathic Medicine and a Diploma in Naturopathy. She is accredited by The General Osteopathic Council and is a member of the British Osteopathic Association.
Amelia enjoys treating a wide variety of aches and pains in the back, neck and other joints working to relieve symptoms and aiming to minimise the complaint reoccurring by examining all aspects of lifestyle and advising accordingly.
She is interested in pilates, aerobics and walking. She is also a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Leader and a trampolining instructor.
Mary - Receptionist
The practice boasts three friendly female receptionists (Ann, Liz and Mary) who will deal with all patient enquiries regarding appointments. There should always be a receptionist available to speak to when you make a call, but if they are unavailable you will receive a prompt call back.
